Being situated in such a lovely part of the Cumbria, we are an ideal base for Walkers and Cyclists alike. Our cottages look out over open farmland towards the Northern Fells and Skiddaw.

Quality in Tourism has introduced a UK wide scheme to give walkers and cyclists’ confidence that they are booking accommodation that needs their particular needs.

We have an outdoor clothing and footwear drying area where items can be left overnight to dry thoroughly; this is a shared facility within our laundry room, it is fully secure and lockable, all cottages have a key for this door with there cottage keys. We have a undercover lockable area for safe storage of bicycles, panniers, car roof racks etc available in the yard behind the cottages next to the games room, 24 hour access is available to guests who when requested will be issued with a key for use during their stay. There is a outside tap and hose pipe available for use to clean walking boots, equipment, clothing and washing down bicycles and pets, if required we can also provide the use of a pressure washer for after more extreme activities.

Each cottage has a small first Aid kit to provide essentials, we would ask that anything used is replaced or a donation left.

Cumbria is also very well known for its cycle routes, the reivers cycle way is part of the national cycle network, it is a coast to coast cycle route which passes our cottages.

Within our forests there are many cycle ways for all abilities, Whinlatter Forrest is nationally well known for exceptional biking in the Northwest, there are two defined routes to cater for higher level bikers, the blue route (Quercus trail) is 7.5 km single track with technical obstacles and hills and the red route (Altura trail) is 19km with optional black route sections for further information on these visit www.whinlatter.com

To explore the beautiful town of Cockermouth the Greenway is a cleverly landscaped public footpath and cycle-trail running through the south side of the town on the route of the Cockermouth and Keswick railway. The line was in use by the railway until 1972 when it was taken off the British Rail network. The overgrown trackbed was rescued by volunteers and is now a very popular route, it is right on the edge of the town yet feels like it’s way out in the countryside, along the way there are interesting waymarkers and embellishments.

There are many town trail guides and a recently produced flood trail map available from the Cockermouth Tourist information centre.
