16th  2 Canada Geese, Stonechat

MARCH

 
13th Oyster Catcher, Shelduck + Pochard
22nd 2 Barnacle Geese, Cormorant + Gt. Spotted Woodpecker
23rd Otters seen!!
24th Osprey Perched in Tree Far side of the Tarn.
25th Osprey Mobbed by Corvids, settled on a Bush far side of Tarn - stayed 5-10mins   (S. Kendall)
28th Last sightings of Whooper Swans

APRIL

 
3rd Otter seen in middle of Tarn
4th 2 Ravens overhead, Shelduck
8th FIRST SWALLOW!!
15th 2 Shelduck, Willow Warbler
26th A huge mass of Tadpoles just in front of the Hide.

MAY

 
5th FIRST SWIFT!   Also FIRST Sedge Warbler
9th FIRST Sand Martins, Mute Swans sitting on Nest, Canada Goose nesting; 4 Coot Chicks being fed and
3 more Coots sitting on Eggs;   2 male Shelduck fighting.
19th Mute Swan on Nest, Coots feeding; 3 Chicks minus one on last week's count.  Swifts, Sand Martins; Swallows & House Martins hawking over the Tarn.
20th King Fisher on Branches to right of the Hide.  Fishing & Preening.
24th Mute Swan on nest. Coot chicks now only one! 2nd pair feeding - 2 tiny chicks.  3 pairs of House Martins nesting on the house.  House Sparrows feeding Young.
30th Mallard with 9 Chicks.  No sign of Canada Geese Chicks.  3rd pair of Coots feeding chicks - 3 this time.

JUNE

 
7th Shelduck chick appeared; Sand Martins feeding young.  1st Moorhen chicks; Mallard Brood now only 7!
8th Mute Swans still nesting .  1000's of Tadpoles in front of Bird Hide.
17th At last 2 Cygnets appeared - 5 eggs in nest only 2 hatched (Rob)
20th No sign of Shelduck Chick; Little Grebe carrying Nest material.  Huge No. of tiny Frogs everywhere.
27th Only x1 Cygnet and No Shelduck chicks

JULY

 
6th 2 Mute Swan but No Cygnets, Mallard chicks now only x5.
15th Redstart - first for the Reserve.  No Mute Swans, new Brood of Mallard chicks - 2 Common Blue Damselfly; Blue Tailed Damselfly (S.B.)
19th 4 Little Grebe plus once Chick; 3 Moorhen Chicks.
26th Barn Owl hunting over Plantation.

AUGUST

 
4th Golden Eye; Grey Wagtail;  Little Grebe 4 + 2 juveniles.
16th Maximum count of Mallard = 104

SEPTEMBER

 
13th Large Charm of Goldfinches approx. 50.     Sparrow Hawk.
20th 5 Barn Owls flying inside Barn (Rob)  2 Barn Owls seen from the Hide at Dusk

OCTOBER

 
4th 6 Swallows feeding over the Tarn (Last Swallows of the year).  Barn Owls active at Dusk; 3 Buzzards being mobbed by Crows, 1st Redwing of the Autumn.
9th 3 Barn owls hunting over the Plantation (6:30-7pm)
18th 1st Field Fare of the Autumn
26th Return of the Whooper Swans 10 Adults +  1 Cygnet

NOVEMBER

 
2nd New Family of Whooper Swans - 3 Adults + 4 Cygnets.  Previous 11 have moved on.
7th Pin Tail Male on site but no Whooper Swans
13th 8 Whooper Swans (new group - all adults) previous x7 have moved on.
20th 8 Whooper Swans; 2 Stone Chat
27th 8 Whooper Swans; 2 Mute Swans, Dead Barn Owl in one of the Buildings (Rob)

DECEMBER

 
5th 5 Whooper Swans
11th No Whooper Swans. Tarn part frozen, Gt. Spotted Woodpecker on dead tree. Brambling (S.B.)
